The Greenhouse
Designed by Hecker Phelan & Guthrie
The Green House Bar sits adjacent to the Grand Victorian Facade of the recently refurbished Hotel Nest. When approaching the design of the courtyard, Hecker Phelan & Guthrie drew inspiration from your quintessential Garden Greenhouse or Potting Shed.
The furniture selected is robust by nature and includes items such as the classic cast iron Thonet table which is accompanied by the Gerbruder Thonet Gartensthul maple chair. Gartensthul aptly enough is German for garden. Against the rustic white brick walls sits a raw timber bench which gives the courtyard a familiar feel and a sense of contentment to the patron.
As with any potting shed, The Green House is garlanded with potted plants and herbs, garden tools, galvanised buckets, found objects and festoon lighting. This bric-a-brac combines to create a visually interesting space which is inherently calm and welcoming yet quite contrastable to the High Victorian Architecture of the Hotel.
A large retractable glass roof covers the ceiling of the Greenhouse, and opens up on a beautiful sunny day.
LUNCH IS SERVED IN THE GREENHOUSE TUESDAY TO SUNDAY. DINNER TUES TO THURSDAY.
